Tired rear shocks bounce over every bump and let the back end wallow through corners. Ikon rear shocks are the top of our suspension lineup — a rebuildable, fully adjustable upgrade we run on our own bikes. Sold as a pair.

Why You Need This

We tried our share of “performance” rear shocks for the CB350, CB360, CB450, and CB550 before Ikon, and none felt worth the money until these. After more than 10,000 cumulative miles across several road trips, the difference was night-and-day — enough that the whole crew here runs Ikon on their personal bikes. It’s the single best performance upgrade we’ve made.

Pick the style that suits your setup: the Fully Adjustable shock adds four-position rebound control on top of the spring preload (black or chrome body), while the Basic Adjustable is built to the same standard with spring preload only.

Ikon Suspension builds these in Australia, and the company traces its roots to the old Koni racing shocks from the golden days of motorcycle racing. Every Ikon shock is 100% rebuildable, and Common Motor is an authorized Ikon service center — so when they eventually wear, they get rebuilt, not thrown away.

Note: These use a 0.63″ (16mm) upper eye. Our factory-style CB350–CB550 shocks use a smaller 9.5mm upper eye — a different mount, so the two aren’t interchangeable at the top.

Installation

Difficulty: Beginner

Tools needed: Wrenches for the upper and lower mount bolts.

1. Bolt the shocks on with the eyelet end up and the clevis end down.
2. Set the rider sag. Total travel runs from where the chrome piston exits the body up to the rubber bumper just below the top eye. With you seated on the bike, aim for about a third of that travel compressed, and adjust the spring preload to get there.
3. On the Fully Adjustable version, match the rebound to the spring: if the spring is on position 3, set the rebound to 3 or 4; spring position 2, rebound 2–3; and so on.
