Why You Need This

A battery is more like a gas tank for electrons than a generator — it only holds what you put in, and these old Honda charging systems barely keep up on their own. Park the bike for a few weeks and the charge drains away. A maintainer trickles in just enough to hold a full charge, so the battery lasts longer and the bike fires right up. Battery-charger technology has come a long way since these bikes were built; this smart charger is built for that job, not the crude high-output chargers of the era.

Specifications

Note: This is a maintainer, not a rescue charger — it’s designed to hold a charge or top up a mildly drained battery, not to bring a completely dead one back to life. It works best on a healthy or new battery.

Installation

Difficulty: Beginner

The ring-terminal pigtail is meant to stay on the battery so you can connect and disconnect the charger in seconds:

1. Connect the positive terminal first, then the negative.
2. Secure the terminal end to the frame with zip ties so it can’t move while you ride.
3. Route the pigtail to an easy-to-reach spot for plugging in the charger.
4. Need more reach? Add a 5 ft extension cable between the charger and the pigtail.
